The first of a series of long operational units, the R-9B series was built as a long distance cruiser, as opposed to the relatively short range of the vast majority of fighters. It's built with staying power and defense in mind.

The R-9B1 Strider is an essential part of any fleet, if only for the Balmung missile. Though it carries other missiles and its Barricade keeps attacks at bay, most fleet commanders are content to use only the Balmung. It needs a radar unit, like the R-9E Midnight Eye, to maximize its range. A dedicated TP-2 POW Armor unit is helpful for maintaining its stock of Balmung missiles. Despite basically requiring two additional units for maximum efficiency, the Strider is well worth the effort.
