The R-9AD series contributed an important development to the R-Series by testing one of the more successful non-standard Wave Cannons. Thus, this ship was granted the moniker "Escort Time", to illustrate its primary power. Whereas most missions actually involve many different R-craft, the R-9AD was primarily developed to make full use of its extraordinary Wave Cannon and take on missions by itself, using virtual energetic copies as backup. This model was so successful that future models were eagerly greenlit.
