Appearances[]

R-Type Final[]

Twisted Ecology is the second stage of R-Type Final.

Twisted Ecology, as the name suggests, is a strange Bydo ecosystem: it appears to be located near a former marina. The boss of this stage is Negus O Shim, a Bydo that can control this ecosystem's climate.

The area itself maintains the basic shape, but the creatures, environmental hazards, and even basic navigation differ from climate to climate. Certain Bydo can only be spotted in certain climates, and visiting them all is necessary to filling out the bestiary.

The stage defaults to 2.3 (wetlands) and is altered by the red and blue prongs that protrude from Negus O Shim, only one of which can be destroyed in any given battle. The climate will change for the next pilot. If Negus O Shim is killed without destroying either prong, the climate won't change. The red prong will make the climate more arid, while the blue prong will make it colder/wetter. The complete set of possible environments are arid desert (2.1), tropical swampland (2.2), temperate wetland (2.3), floodland (2.4) and arctic floodland (2.5).

R-Type Final 2[]

STGX5 TROPIC

Tropical (Start Checkpoint)

STGX5 CONTROL

Weather Report Room

Here it's known as Stage X5.0, "Distorted Ecosystem".

Instead of altering the climate when encountering the boss, the climate is instead altered by destroying Weather Reports at the end of each segment; there is no way to avoid destroying these and living to tell about it, as they block the flight path.

STGX5 SAWMP

Swamp (Red Route)

STGX5 DESERT

Desert (2nd Red Route)

STGX5 UNDERWATER

Underwater (Blue Route)

STGX5 ARTIC

Antic Foodland (2nd Blue Route)

Destroying it while blue will result in a colder/wetter environment, whereas destroying it while red will result in a more hot/arid environment. There are a total of three segments to this stage, resulting in either an arid desert, tropical swampland, or Arctic Foodland. The enemies encountered will change as the climate does, including the abilities of Mature Negus O Shim's Immature bulbs.
